Left Open is the continuation of Isa Infante's 2014 gubernatorial campaign in Tennessee. She represented the Green Party. Most of the Left Open crowd are Greens. Some are Democratic Socialists (DSA), Democrats, and Anarchists. Some are politically independent, but have the same progressive views associated with the Left. We are centered in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, with some active contributors living in the greater Southern Appalachians.

Left Open follows and supports Green Party principles and will gladly help promote any Green Party candidate in the US.

Our Intention With Left Open

Left Open is a mix of original content and links. Lots of links. We hope to be able to serve both those progressive thinkers who are interested in self-improvement as well as more radical progressives that want to learn how to participate and organize protests and political campaigns.

The site is currently undergoing its third big expansion. There may be some odd looking pages. Not to worry. We are on it.

Using The Site

Left Open is organized so that both experienced activists and those just starting to live more mindfully can find critical information. For those just starting out, try out our Living Green(er) section. Start out by improving yourself and then let your interest expand to your household, neighborhood, and beyond. Join groups and participate in events. Eventually you may want to be an activist.

For more experienced activists, we are starting to maintain our own Download Center and are organizing our past original content in the archives. These will help you find the resources you need quickly whether it is original site content or a link to other's content.

If you would like to contact us for any reason, please write leftopentn@gmail.com.

[I am running for Governor of the State of Tennessee as a Green Party candidate.] I have been active in numerous political, social, educational and environmental community organizations and I want to continue making a positive contribution to making this a better world for all of us and not just for the privileged few. I believe this campaign will be an important way of contributing to that mission.

My educational background includes a Ph.D. in political science (B.A. and Ph.D at the University of California; M.A. at Yale) and a law degree (Northeastern School of Law in Boston). My professional experience has included teaching political science at the university level, an academic deanship, working for the U.S. Department of Education and also at the White House in Washington D.C. In addition I have been a consultant to a wide range of legal, political, community, and international development organizations. I have been on the Board of Directors of organizations in cities where I have resided, have owned several small businesses and been elected to public service in New York, California and Connecticut and previously ran for Mayor of Knoxville, TN.

Currently I am the Coordinating Chair of the Green Party of Knox County, President of the Yale Club of Knoxville and on the Board of Directors of My Place Performing Arts Center in Knoxville. I also participate in the Neighborhood Watch of the public housing complex where I live, in a community Improv comedy troupe and in a feminist collective. In addition, I am a practitioner of the Alexander Technique, Macrobiotics and Tai Chi.

I was born in the Dominican Republic of Puerto Rican and Dominican parents and arrived in the USA in 1945 at the age of three. I was raised in the Bronx, N.Y. and California and have traveled extensively throughout the US and abroad. Since arriving in Tennessee in 1986 I have also traveled with my former Bluegrass band and after arriving in Knoxville in 1991 I traveled internationally with my one-woman show which I created and in which I performed.
